Privacy policy
In short
No user accounts, no tracking cookies, no ads. We do not sell or share data with anyone.
Usage statistics
We count visitors with an ID made from the IP address and browser mixed with a random value that changes every day, so it cannot be turned back into an IP address or linked across days. We do not store IP addresses; we keep only the country, device and browser type, the page opened and the site that sent you.
Flood reports you send
The location, road status, depth, note and photo (if any) are shown on the public map and may be shared on the Floodboard X and Facebook pages to warn others. We remove location data embedded in photos before sharing. Please avoid faces and number plates.
Your location
Used when you ask for a route or navigation, to calculate it; it is not kept as a history. If you have already allowed location, the app checks on your phone whether a water report is right next to you, to ask whether the water is still there. The path you drive while navigating stays on your phone (for the questions at the end of the trip) and is never sent to us.
Reporter leaderboard
Your browser makes a random ID, kept on your device, and sends it with your reports. We store only a hash of it, to count your marks and how many people they helped. To count that, the page tells us which people's marks it showed, opened, was near or drove past (the mark IDs only, never your location). To keep fake reports off the map, each report is also checked against other sources nearby; for that we keep, for 72 hours, a one-way fingerprint of your network (not your address) and, if your phone already shares its location with the map, your rounded position when you sent the report. A nickname is optional and is shown on the public leaderboard. There are no accounts; clear this site's data in your browser to start over.
Session recordings (a sample)
To make the map easier to use, we record about 1 in 5 visits to the map (taps, scrolling, which screens were opened). Everything you type, the background map, the pins and the route details are masked and never recorded. No cookies; stored only on our own server, deleted after 14 days, seen only by the team. Turn on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser to opt out.
Data from public sources
BMA sensors, water levels, rain, Traffy Fondue and public posts about flooding, used only to show the situation.
Deleting your data
To delete your report or photo, message us on X @floodboardTH or on the Floodboard Facebook page with the time and place of the report. We delete it within 7 days.
Service providers
The site runs on our own server behind Cloudflare, which processes connections for security. Background map by OpenStreetMap. When the place search finds no road by that name, the text you typed (never your location) is looked up in Photon, an OpenStreetMap place search run by komoot.
